Ramadhan Buffet at Kelantan Delights

There’s no denying that Kelantan Delights serves some of the best Kelantanese dishes around here in the Klang Valley.  Needless to say, their Ramadhan buffet is one which I look forward to, having first tasted it in 2011.  Their Ramadhan spread showcases all their signature dishes and it’s a great opportunity to savour all the scrumptious Kelantanese delights under one roof in one seating – if you have the capability to do so!

This year, with a new culinary and management team in place, Kelantan Delights’ Ramadhan buffet takes on a bazaar theme.  In their spacious Wisma Consplant location, thatch-roofed stalls have been set up in front of the restaurant.  With all the appropriate deco and activities, the place certainly takes on a busy festive air.

This year there’s a kid’s corner offering hot dogs, chicken nuggets, fishballs, egg fried rice – all children-friendly items!  How thoughtful… they even have kids’ cutleries!

The stalls have live action… on-site cooking for satay, ikan bakar, laksam, assam laksa, char kway teow and fried delicacies like keropok lekor, springrolls, cucur badak and more.  The kerang bakar is especially popular – this was actually the first stall I zoomed in!  The cockles were grilled very nicely and the accompanying sauces paired well with them.

The Kelantan corners feature their signature dishes: nasi dagang, nasi kerabu with full selection of condiments and accompanying curries.  Long lines are constantly seen at these stalls.  On one side, there are these 2 huge pots – one of Sup Ekor and the one of Gulai Kawah simmering and bubbling away on top of stoves with burning charcoals.

There is a wide selection of Pickles, Salads and Kerabus which all look very delectable.  From the rate the platters are emptied, I can just conclude that these are one of the crowd’s favourites.  There are Kerabu Paku, Kerabu Kacang Botol, Nangka, Jantung Pisang, Betik Muda, Perut and more.

Ayam Masak Merah

The classic Malay dishes are rotated daily in 3 set menus.  On the evening that I was there, there were Ayam Masak Merah, Sambal Sotong, Daging Masak Hitam, Gulai Lemak Udang Nenas, Lala Masak Lemak Putih and several more.  I definitely must go back there on the day they serve Ayam Goreng Berempah as this is one of my absolute favourites in this restaurant!

As for desserts, I can’t even begin to list down all of them – the spread is really pretty exhaustive, more than 30 choices daily.  All the popular Kelantanese sweets are there: Tahi Itik, Jala Emas, Lompat Tikam, Akok plus a whole long list of traditional Malay kuihs.

The Ramadhan buffet at Kelantan Delights is prepared by a team of 30 chefs, led by their new Head Chef, Muslim Sadli, a dashing 25 year-old chef from Kelantan.  The dedicated, young and energetic team has done well to come up with a buffet spread that’s very focused on traditional authentic Malay fares with Kelantanese highlights.
